This is my soap made for the month of March for the 2013 Universal Soap Challenge, for which I choosed as inspiration the country of India. I have never been to India, but this country is an atraction for me not only because of its beautiful places and culture, but also for its interesting flora.
Called also “village pharmacy”, neem is reputed to be a ‘cure-all’ plant which can be used both internally (as tea to treat skin contidions for example) and externally. What mostly appealed to me are its antibacterial, antifungal properties which help in relieving various skin conditions such as acne, psoriasis, eczema, athletes foot and dandruff. It can be used directly on the skin as a gentle cleanser mixed with some water, but it can also used it in scrubs, facial masks, body powders, shampoos or soaps. But most of all the neem powder is known to fight dandruff and for its wonderful growth and hair conditioning benefits. I will for sure try this Ayurvedic powder in a shampoo ( mixed with shikakaï and amla powder for a maximum effect), but I couldn’t resist trying this plant in a soap.
Scented with rosemary essential oil, this soap is made of olive oil, coconut oil, cacao butter, palm oil, neem oil , neem powder and red ochre powder for the red insertions.

Iti multumesc,Iulia! Ambele au un miros special, insa uleiul as zice ca miroase mai puternic. L am parfumat cu ulei de rozmarin si sapunul miroase ok, nu se simte f tare neem 🙂

Neem tree is such mystery for me, as India itself! I’ve read about the Neem oil,wish I could try it. I love your tops, the curls really give the soap the perfect finish touch! Beautiful!
Love the curls on top! I’ve yet to make curls that look decent, but it’s been on my “want to try” list for a while!
PS: I found neem oil to have a very STRONG (not necessarily pleasant scent). Did you find this? Does the smell come through in your soap?
Jennifer, I put only 8% of neem oil, and yes, it has a strong scent, but with some good essential oil it’s ok I would say. I don’t mind its scent as far as it has good benefits on skin )

Foarte frumos sapunelul, insertiile arata minunat, am citit ca uleiul de neem este foarte bun in multe afectiuni… pentru matreata e foarte eficient si polenul de albine fara a indura miros neplacut, pacat ca multa lume nu stie acest lucru !

Traci, the soap still smells the neem oil, even if tried to cover with rosemary essential oil. Maybe I should have put less neem oil or more essential oil. I will have to try it some day!
