I have finally found this natural colorant which I have been looking for so long!
I have read that in soap, alkanet root will yield shades of pink, blue, and purple, depending upon the amount used, types of oil used, and the alkalinity of the soap. Really impressed about the fact that the type of oil would influence the colour, I started experimenting. This soap contains: coconut oil, palm oil, cacao butter, olive oil, sunflower oil and of course alkanet roots infused in olive oil which I added at trace.
The most suitable essential oil to this purple was of course the lavender one.
I am curious to see how long this lovely colour will last.

I have been using alkanet for years and find that the colour holds indefinitely. It is one of my favourite natural colourants. Your soap is lovely! 🙂
Thanks Sonya. I am really content to try out alkanet too!
Lovely purple, Natalia! I like your soap stamp, too. How interesting that alkanet root can end up being so many different shades of color!
Yes, Jenny, I find it amazing too to get different shades of colours :).
That is a gorgeous purple!! Mine is more of a greyish-purple. Definitely not as lovely as what you got. Did you use the roots direct, or was it a powdered form?
Thanks Nitya! I used the roots infused in olive oil!
Yabadabadooo…..you succeeded a nice purple!
I love this soap!
Me, I could not find Alkanet here and I searching for a long time…
I want to attempt a purple experience next week ,see what comes out.
And finally we do a competition:you,me and Nitya(the list is open for everybody)… we call it´´Purple fans´´,he,he,he.(now I laugh and write).
I am joking or not…
Pupici !
Your soaps turned out amazing! I super love using Alkanet Root because it gives such a natural and earthy look.
Congratulations for the fine color. With alkanet I had a lot of grey hues but never a si beautiful purple ! You can see I am french with à very bad english !

Very nice purple and, i will come back, to see the evolution
That will be au true revolution for me, and my test with alkanet

Sorry for my english
merveilleuse couleur et tout le bonheur qu’elle donne à celui qui la trouve
You manage to get a perfect shade of purple. Like Lavender from Provence. Stunning! Great job!
Hvala Ksenija for your visit!
Alkanet can be in the oil, and, please warm it at 142 degrees Celsius for two minutes. You can keep some colors and can extract the nourishment, too
What an adorable stamp!
Hi Natalia. This is Juan Luis. I would like to know a little more about natural colors. After I saw this post, I have been reading but there’s no much information or I didn’t look in the right places. If you don’t mind I would like to know more about natural colours and how to use them. Would you mind to teach me a little bit? Thank you very much, JL.
