Alkanet

I have finally found this natural colorant which I have been looking for so long!

Orcanette I have read that in soap, alkanet root will yield shades of pink, blue, and purple, depending upon the amount used, types of oil used, and the alkalinity of the soap.  Really impressed  about the fact that the type of oil would influence the colour, I started experimenting. This soap contains: coconut oil, palm oil, cacao butter, olive oil, sunflower oil and of course alkanet roots infused in olive oil which I added at trace.

The most suitable essential oil to this purple was of course the lavender one.

I am curious to see how long this lovely colour will last.

I have been using alkanet for years and find that the colour holds indefinitely. It is one of my favourite natural colourants. Your soap is lovely! 🙂

Lovely purple, Natalia! I like your soap stamp, too. How interesting that alkanet root can end up being so many different shades of color!

That is a gorgeous purple!! Mine is more of a greyish-purple. Definitely not as lovely as what you got. Did you use the roots direct, or was it a powdered form?

    1. mijnzeep1 says:

Thanks Nitya! I used the roots infused in olive oil!

Pupici !

Alkanet can be in the oil, and, please warm it at 142 degrees Celsius for two minutes. You can keep some colors and can extract the nourishment, too

Hi Natalia. This is Juan Luis. I would like to know a little more about natural colors. After I saw this post, I have been reading but there’s no much information or I didn’t look in the right places. If you don’t mind I would like to know more about natural colours and how to use them. Would you mind to teach me a little bit? Thank you very much, JL.
